BAFTA does so much more than just hand out awards at its annual ceremonies. It also offers a global programmes of live events and screenings that take place throughout the year. These events are designed to give audiences an unparalleled insight into the inspirational and creative worlds of film, games and television. We’ve chosen a few of our favourite events and one’s we’re hoping to attend.

Special Preview: Journey’s End + Q&A

Taking place on Thursday 23 November 2017 at 6.30 pm. It’s being held at Cineworld Cardiff, Mary Ann Street. BAFTA Cymru have partnered with Wales Screen in order to host a special preview of the feature film Journey’s End. The film’s director Saul Dibb, writer Simon Reade, producer Guy de Beaujeu and actor Asa Butterfield will be attending The event is an exclusive event that’s being held for BAFTA members and invited guests. First Minister Carwyn Jones will also be attending. The evening will start with a drinks reception and will be followed by the film screening and then questions and answers.

Journeyman – Glasgow Screening

This event will take place on Tuesday 28th November at 6.30 pm. The screening will be be in the Glasgow Grosvenor Cinema. The film that’s being previewed is the story of middleweight boxing champion, Matty Burton. He suffers a serious head injury during a fight towards the end of his career. The general release date is 16th February 2018. Cast includes Paddy Considine, Jodie Whittaker, Anthony Welsh, Tony Pitts and Paul Popplewell. The film is directed by Paddy Considine.

A Life in Pictures: Christopher Nolan

Taking place on Friday 1st December at 7.00 pm, BAFTA-nominated director and producer Christopher Nolan shares his insights into his experiences and successes of film-making. He is best known for the films Inception and this year’s blockbuster, Dunkirk. The event start with a Champagne Taittinger reception and is planned to end at 21.00. Tickets are available for BAFTA members and members of the public.

A Life in Pictures: Allison Janney

Best known for The West Wing and Juno, actress Allison Janney will be sharing her expertise and insights gleaned during her long-standing career. The event takes place on Wednesday 13th December at 7.30pm and will be held in the Princess Anne Theatre, Piccadilly. At 19.30 there will be a Champagne Taittinger reception to start the event, which is due to end at 21.30.

Masterclass: Costume Design with Michael Wilkinson

This masterclass is being delivered by BAFTA-nominated costume designer Michael Wilkinson. He will be discussing his work on defining genres through costume. As well as looking at the design process from sketch to screen. It is being held in the ICA Theatre on Wednesday 6th December, at 7.00pm. Some of Michael’s past projects include David O’Russell’s American Hustle for which he was Oscar and BAFTA nominated. Other projects he had worked on include the Twilight Sagas, Alejandro Inarritu’s Babel and Joy as well as another o’Russell collaboration. His most recent costume designs can be seen in The Current War staring Benedict Cumberbatch as well as DC Comics’ Justice League. He is currently busy working on Guy Ritchie’s live action remake of Disney’s Aladdin.
